Put a Lid on it

As we look back on the timing of our construction, I think we timed it perfectly… to build almost exactly during the rainy season. So, it only made sense that the roof was put on once the rainy season had come to an end. Ha.

For the shingles on our home, we chose Certainteed Carriage House shingles. Manufactured in multiple locations throughout the US, this super-heavyweight shingle offers premium performance, a unique scalloped edge, and shadow lines providing depth and richness. This shingle also comes with an excellent warranty:

• Lifetime, limited transferable warranty
• 10-year SureStart™ warranty (100% replacement and labor costs due to manufacturing defects)
• 15-year StreakFighter™ warranty against streaking and discoloration caused by airborne algae
• 15-year, 130-mph wind-resistance warranty (CertainTeed starter and CertainTeed hip and ridge are required)

As mentioned in an earlier posting, we chose Gold Key Roofing as our roofing contractor. Gold Key has 24+ years of business in the Orlando area and is a member of the Better Business Bureau & National Association Against Consumer Fraud.

The roof looks outstanding. Thanks to all the folks at Gold Key for a job well done. They went the extra mile to find valley material made in the USA and to confirm that all other materials were made in the USA.

Other products used during roofing are:

Plastic Cement – Mule-Hide Products
Roofing Nails – Maze Nails
30 lb Felt – Tamko
